Big Joe’s Fuel & Go honors the legacy of “Big” Joe Wolf; Kohler native, basketball icon, and luminous presence throughout the Village of Kohler. A hometown hero whose impact extended far beyond the gym, Joe was known for his warmth, humility, and deep connection to his community.
Big Joe’s introduces that connection to another generation, offering a gathering place built around the same values Joe embodied—friendliness, familiarity, and pride in where you come from. Just as The Kid from Kohler would have wanted.

Joe Wolf’s journey to greatness began in Kohler, where he first made his mark at Kohler High School. Leading the Blue Bombers to statewide prominence, he captured three state championships (1980, 1982, 1983) and earned McDonald’s All-American and Wisconsin Mr. Basketball honors.
He continued his career at the University of North Carolina, playing under legendary coach Dean Smith. At UNC, Joe earned All-ACC honors in 1987, helped lead the Tar Heels to two Sweet 16 and two Elite Eight appearances, and served as co-captain alongside Kenny Smith. He even shared the court with future NBA greats including Michael Jordan and Sam Perkins.
Selected No. 13 overall in the 1987 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers, Joe went on to a 12-year professional career with seven NBA teams, including Denver, Charlotte, Orlando, Portland, Boston, and Milwaukee.
With his playing years in the rearview, Joe returned to Wisconsin, where he mentored the next generation of athletes as an assistant coach with the Wisconsin Herd and remained a steady, beloved presence surrounding the sport and his Kohler community.
