Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

A Cleansing Approach

The lymph system is integral to the functioning of the whole body. When we focus on lymphatic drainage during massage, we use light pressure and long, gentle, rhythmic strokes to drain lymphatic fluid out of the limbs and back into circulation. This type of massage is called Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD). It brings excellent benefits to the whole body including the circulatory, endocrine, and immune systems.

Whole Body Benefits

Because the lymph system plays an integral part in your body's immune system and helps fight infection, this type of massage is perfect after illness, injury, or surgery.

Different Movements = Different Benefits

MLD is different from standard massage. With MLD we use hand techniques to stimulate the tissue and create lymph movement toward various lymph ducts to decongest the system.

Why it's Essential

The lymphatic system in our body filters all the waste products, toxins, and mutant cells that leave the bloodstream. When the lymphatic system is functioning properly, it filters and helps to detox the body quite efficiently. An efficient lymphatic system is an essential part of maintaining health and a strong immune system

What Happens at an Appointment?

First, our therapists will work with you to determine the appropriate approach for your treatment. A certified therapist will apply gentle pressure, moving hands along the body in specified directions—manually guiding the fluid in the direction of the lymph nodes, to drain the excess fluid from the body. This won’t feel like a standard massage.

How it Affects the Body

Lymphatic drainage helps alleviate water retention to reduce bloating, giving you an overall leaner look. You may also experience improvements in your circulatory, respiratory, and endocrine system. Studies have shown that cleansing your lymphatic system can support your immune functions as well as help you lose weight and burn calories more effectively.
